Birthplace of the Colorado Gold Rush, Arvada dates to the 1850s, when it was founded as a mining town. Officially founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1904, Arvada grew slowly until the 1950s, when its population boomed from a mere 2,000 to over 20,000. Since then it's become well connected with Denver and primarily serves as a bedroom suburb.

Currently Old Town Arvada is arguably the most prosperous and successful suburban downtown in the Denver area. Unlike others in the region it remains an active and integral part of the Arvada economy, and is the cultural heart of the city. By no means is it an adequate center for a city of over a hundred thousand, but at least it hasn't sunk to the realm of inconsequentiality.
