Queen City of the Plains. Denver is the largest, densest, most cosmopolitan city in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. No other city for almost 900 miles in any direction can match Denver's importance as a cultural, financial or business center.
From an urban perspective Denver is a lot like a Midwestern city. There’s more to it than the typical western sprawlopolis, but it’s a long way from matching the urbanity of coastal cities. Downtown is pleasant and walkable for the most part, but interspersed with too many parking lots. From there out the inner neighborhoods are mostly contemporary with streetcar developments and fit the pattern of 2nd or 3rd ring neighborhoods in bigger, more urban cities.
