Incorporated in 1890, Littleton was an established town long before the Denver suburbs surrounded it. When old Arapahoe County was broken up in 1902 forming Arapahoe, Denver, Adams, Washington and Yuma Counties, Littleton was selected as the seat of government, beating out rival Englewood.

Currently Littleton's downtown is more of a historic "old town" than a real heart to the city. Although some infill developments have been made in past years, they're far too small to make a meaningful difference. A downtown Light Rail station, however, brings hope of revitalization.
